In front of the fountain there is a lavoir built in the 19th century that was restored during the 20th century and has a concrete cladding. \u003c/p\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn Le Chemin des Fontaines, Roger Le Deunff refers to a Fontaine St Méen in Cancale. He writes “Let's rather call it the spring, because it emerges from a cavity in the cliff, about a meter high, in the \"Val ès Porcons\" beach located below the old church of Saint Méen. The people of Cancale will tell you that, during his visit to this place, Saint Méen drove his shepherd's staff into the rock, and a spring gushed forth to treat skin diseases, particularly impetigo. This highly contagious skin infection, caused by bacteria, was common in old times. Formerly, it was called \"Saint Méen's disease,\" and it mainly affected young children, whose heads were then covered with \"cradle cap.\" Mothers would take them to the spring to wash their heads, and take sacred water home in a bottle to continue the treatment.
