Mary grew up in this village and lived there until 16 when her family moved to Canada. She got her education in Slovakia. She had four brothers but one of them died. Her father worked in Canada before, he came home for a year and left for Canada again because 'there was better living over there'. The family joined him in a year when they managed to sell their house. In 1937 they arrived in Winnipeg where they stayed for 12 weeks looking for a suitable farm to buy. They found a farm in Fraserwood where they stayed for three years. There were a lot of Ukrainians. Later on, they moved again to Dufresne where they bought a bigger farm with better land. From this house, she got married. She worked in a restaurant for 5 dollars a week, washing dishes.\nMary's father was born in Ostrov. Mother and all four brothers were born in Stráže. Both villages are in the same district of Piešťany in Slovakia.
