They farmed in the Coaldale area before they came to Coalhurst. During the war years, she and her husband lived in Victoria, B.C. Then, they went to Lethbridge, Alberta.\nShe finished grade 9. She was a homemaker and worked in a dress store. Around 1942, she left the farm and worked as a waitress.\nBefore the war, she lived on the farm with her parents and two younger sisters. She doesn't remember whether they celebrated Christmas on December 25th or January 7th.\nThey never had any oranges, only when they were sick. They would have hamburger and veal, and they would can it. But most of their meat came from their own farm. Her mother did not do a lot of frying, she boiled everything. They would eat boiled chicken with garlic. In school, they would be called \"bohunks\" when they ate too much garlic.\nShe recalls what food they produced on the farm. They sold cheese and cream, they called it chynene moloko (boiled milk). She never had to milk the cows in the morning as she had to get to school, but in the evening. They also had to separate the milk. They had a cream separator. They had about six cows. She recalls the Coalhurst mining accident of 1935. Her father quit coal mining then and bought some additional land. When her father was still working in the mine, her mother would hire a haying crew to help them.\nBogusky also describes a work day of her mother. She did everything on the farm, in addition to cooking. She also had to carry water from a lake to water the garden as they never had any irrigation (no sprinklers). The lake was about an hour walk away, and her mother had to carry the water in buckets.
