Her mother thought that they should speak in High German so that they could understand the liturgy. They didn't speak too much Russian. She feels sorry that she forgot Russian as she liked the language. They had to talk in Russian with their employees (labourers). They had no use for it in Canada.\nBraun thinks that what she said seems silly and asks the interviewer if she gets marks for what she is doing.\nAt home, they spoke a mixture of Plautdietsch and German (she differentiates those two languages) and English. She admonishes the interviewer not to forget German.\nBraun recalls that she travelled to Germany and mixed some English words in her German. She reflects on the significance of English today.\nShe didn't attend public school in Canada, she only took evening classes. She also took private lessons.","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Synopsis"]}}],"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132686#t=1516.0,1859.08245"},{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132686/index/52396/annotation/9","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"languages","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Subjects"]}}],"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132686#t=1516.0,1859.08245"},{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132686/index/52396/annotation/10","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Plautdietsch","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Keywords"]}}],"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132686#t=1516.0,1859.08245"}]}]},{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132687","type":"Canvas","label":{"en":["Media File 3 of 4 - 2004-091-4005.wav"]},"duration":1821.93052,"width":640,"height":40,"thumbnail":[{"id":"https://d9jk7wjtjpu5g.cloudfront.net/collection_resource_files/thumbnails/000/132/687/small/Logo.png?1687990980","type":"Image","format":"image/png"}],"items":[{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132687/content/1","type":"AnnotationPage","items":[{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132687/content/3/annotation/1","type":"Annotation","motivation":"painting","body":{"id":"https://aviary-p-ualberta.s3.wasabisys.com/collection_resource_files/resource_files/000/132/687/original/2004-091-4005.wav?1660928485","type":"Audio","format":"audio/wav","duration":1821.93052,"width":640,"height":40},"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132687","metadata":[]}]}],"annotations":[{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132687/index/52395","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["Part 3 [Index]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132687/index/52395/annotation/1","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Language use, neighbours, stores, social relations, death of father, games","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Title"]}}],"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132687#t=1.0,954.0"},{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58592/file/132687/index/52395/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Braun recalls that she forgot Russian as she didn't use it anymore in Canada.\nHer closest neighbours in Canada were all Mennonites.
