The man who owned the milling company was a German and was the choir leader. She recalls a few members of the choir in Treherne. One of her boyfriends sang in the choir, he was a baritone.\nIn the Treherne area, most of the people were English-speaking. There were French settlements outside of Treherne.\nMercer used to play softball, they had a softball league and played in several towns in the area. By that time, everyone seemed to have a car. When they started, they mostly went by bicycle or horse and buggy. The teams were mixed, men and women played together. She also enjoyed ice skating.\nMercer remembers that apart from picnics, there were also Fall suppers in her community. The men would cut up the meat, the women would do the cooking. The money from that went to the community. There was also a sewing circle, and the money was used to buy sewing material for that. They made quilts, aprons and dresses and other clothing, and then they had a sale in town. People who didn't sew would knit or crochet. Her mother was the president of the sewing circle, while her father was the president of the beef ring. Her father was also a member of the Manitoba Wheat pool. Mercer herself also worked for the Wheat pool. \nMercer explains that after finishing high school, he went back to life with her parents for a few years, working part-time in Treherne and helping on the farm.","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Synopsis"]}}],"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132802#t=1023.0,1753.57098"},{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132802/index/52285/annotation/14","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"choirs","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Subjects"]}},{"type":"TextualBody","value":"dance","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Subjects"]}},{"type":"TextualBody","value":"ice skating","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Subjects"]}},{"type":"TextualBody","value":"knitting","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Subjects"]}},{"type":"TextualBody","value":"picnics","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Subjects"]}},{"type":"TextualBody","value":"sewing","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Subjects"]}},{"type":"TextualBody","value":"softball","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Subjects"]}}],"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132802#t=1023.0,1753.57098"},{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132802/index/52285/annotation/15","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Fall suppers","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Keywords"]}},{"type":"TextualBody","value":"French","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Keywords"]}},{"type":"TextualBody","value":"sewing circle","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Keywords"]}},{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Wheat pool","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Keywords"]}}],"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132802#t=1023.0,1753.57098"}]}]},{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132803","type":"Canvas","label":{"en":["Media File 3 of 3 - 2005-091-4718.wav"]},"duration":927.05669,"width":640,"height":40,"thumbnail":[{"id":"https://d9jk7wjtjpu5g.cloudfront.net/collection_resource_files/thumbnails/000/132/803/small/audio-default.png?1640608562","type":"Image","format":"image/png"}],"items":[{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132803/content/1","type":"AnnotationPage","items":[{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132803/content/3/annotation/1","type":"Annotation","motivation":"painting","body":{"id":"https://aviary-p-ualberta.s3.wasabisys.com/collection_resource_files/resource_files/000/132/803/original/2005-091-4718.wav?1660930628","type":"Audio","format":"audio/wav","duration":927.05669,"width":640,"height":40},"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132803","metadata":[]}]}],"annotations":[{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132803/index/52284","type":"AnnotationPage","label":{"en":["Part 3 [Index]"]},"items":[{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132803/index/52284/annotation/1","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Farm life, health issues","format":"text/plain","label":{"en":["Title"]}}],"target":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132803#t=15.0,311.0"},{"id":"https://ualberta.aviaryplatform.com/collections/1776/collection_resources/58627/file/132803/index/52284/annotation/2","type":"Annotation","motivation":"supplementing","body":[{"type":"TextualBody","value":"Mercer recalls that she grew up in good conditions, however, there wasn't much money on the farm.
