Many people sold the farm when they were elder and when their children left.\nHis father was born in Austria, there is a book on his family history which is prepared by his family members. His sister is retired, was a nurse in the hospital.\nHis father was not Catholic, but his parents (interviewee´s grandparents were Catholics). His two aunts used to go to the church. As he was looking for his birth certificate people in the church were not helpful as they were not going to the church. In 1936 he was about 8-9 years old. \nHis father used to cut and sell wood (35 cents a load), a Chinese man used to buy it from him. Once they received some clothes in the church which were brought  by the preacher from Toronto. They also received presents, usually there were some Japanese oranges, he also received a small horn as a present. Later he found him in Edmonton at the age of 87 and the preacher remembered him when Mr. Derkach introduced himself as the child from the poor family at the lake in Preeceville. \nDiscussing the percentage of the income people use to pay to churches. \nThey used to pick berries, prepared jams out of the rhubarb. The self made wine and beer was prepared in his family. Home brewing was not allowed, but nobody got in trouble unless somebody reported it. The punishment could have been six month in jail.\nThe whole family used to go picking berries. It was illegal to have a Ukrainian newspaper around 1935-1937 as people around would automatically consider a person being a communist. There was a guy John who was nevertheless carrying the Ukrainian newspaper and when their mother died they invited him to say an obituary for her as they thought that she would have liked that. Ukrainian newspaper was important for Ukrainian people in Canada as many did not understand English. These newspapers were printed in Winnipeg. Many people prepayed the subscription and the delivery was free.\nPeople used the paper in which the apples were wrapped in for wrapping the potatoes. \nHalloween was celebrated, kids used to dress and walk from house to house. He started doing this around the age of ten. When people were chasing kids then they would not leave them alone, it was a big fun for the children.\nHim and the children were often blamed for different things, because their mother was a widow.\nThe children used to do a lot of different tricks on Halloween.
