She was born in 1906 on the North Saskatchewan river on the northside riverbank in a dugout. Moved to Stry when she was 4 and she grew up there. In 1911, she moved to Stry from farm at Shandro. Moved to Bellis in 1924. Was always farming. In 1942, she moved to Vilna. Her father was born in Ukraine in Sokol region (now L’vivskyi Oblast). Mother came from the same village. Father came in 1903 and mother came in 1904. There were 6 boys and 3 girls in her family. They built a school in 1916 in May, they had a teach for 5 months. Next year 2 months and the next year 6 weeks. Has done all the types of farming work- threshing, horses, seeding, cutting grain. Lived with her parents until she got married. She is Ukrainian. There were no English people in Stry. In Stry, mother would drink tea and father would drink coffee. Later they would eat cornmeal for breakfast, macaroni with cheese or milk for breakfast, cream of wheat for breakfast. For dinner there was always a big meal. Her father would go hunting so there was always meat. Rabbits and they would also kill a pig. Always had good meals for dinner, with at least three items. They would bake bread in the clay oven outside. For supper, they would have potatoes with something. In the summer they would have something from milk, macaroni or rice. They would have sauerkraut, perogies, and cabbage rolls. At her uncles across the road, they would always make sauerkraut. Special meal on Christmas with kutia and borshch. They bought sugar at the store in Mundare which is 50 miles away. He bought 50 pounds of salt, for the whole year. They would buy tea and coffee.
