Above the fountain is a statue of Saint Brevalaire, the patron saint of both Kerlouan and sixth century migrants from the British Isles who were escaping the Angles, Saxon and Scottish invasion. Fontaine de Saint Egarec is associated with the curing of deafness. According an information panel in the garden of the chapel, to heal deafness visitors to the fountain should soak a silver coin in the holy water of the fountain, apply it to the deaf ear and then place the silver coin on the alter of the nearby chapel. Almost all fountains have an annual ‘pardon’ or pilgrimage to the fountain where a procession led be a local priest will walk together to the fountain for the waters and the pilgrims to be blessed.
