The gable at the back of the building is also pierced with a small niche. Saint-Malo (Mac Law) was originally from Wales and landed in Aleth, an important site for Celtic tribes. It was burned by the Romans, and then later grew into a small town in the Middle Ages. It is located in the commune of Saint-Servan, which today is attached to the city of Saint-Malo. Saint-Malo performed numerous miracles, for which the inhabitants of the region then chose him as bishop. Prey to the jealousy of some, he was forced into exile, and he died in Saintes in 649. According to some sources, Bretons from Aleth came to Locmalo in the 10th century. In Breton “loc” means hermitage.
