It looks like her father remarried when Anne was about six. Before that, they lived in Gardenton, MB on the farm. When she was six they moved to Rycroft, AB and the same year to Silverwood, AB where her dad bought a homestead. She grew up in Silverwood. In 1941 she got married and moved to a farm 5.5 miles north of Rycroft. \nAnne does not know when her family came to Canada. She assumes it was in the 1900s. Her father came from Bridok, Bukovyna to Manitoba where he married her mom (this part is unclear). Her parents never told her about the Old Country. Anne does not know how they met. \nShe is asked how her father got remarried. He put an ad in the paper and found Anne's stepmother. It was in Silverwood. She tells about her stepmother. \"It was not bad. Probably not like a real mother but I didn't remember what real mother would have been.\" There were thirteen children in the family and three of them passed away. She does not know what caused their death. There were no fences or dugouts so they had to drive them to a creek to water and graze. They milked cows, made butter and cheese. They had about thirty cows. They kept pigs, chickens, and geese. They had a well which they would fill with snow and kept meat there. The well stayed really cold until July. In July and August, they would keep meat still in the well but it would not have been as cold as before. They preserved some fruit and vegetables but not very much. They just kept them overwinter in a cellar. They preserved mostly saskatoon berries, raspberries, strawberries and rhubarb.
