Steve was never married and has only ever lived in Winnipeg, MB. He received full schooling, including college and performed work as a labourer. Growing up, Steve lived with his parents and had no siblings. He identifies his ancestry as Ukrainian. Steve’s father worked for Northwest Railroad Foundry as a machinist. In the summertime, his mother would work in the garden. Later, she would get a job in a hotel as a chambermaid. \nSteve's family lived in several different places in Winnipeg. They lived on Burrows Avenue, Redwood Avenue and Aberdeen Avenue, and finally when he was 16 years old, his father bought a small bungalow on Boyd. It had 4 rooms and a full basement. Steve remembers having Christmas lights on the outside of his house and some pictures on the walls inside of mountains and trees. Steve does not know if anyone in his family did crafts. Steve mentions that his family quit the church after his family was denied information about her brother who was adopted. Prior to that, his family attended church weekly on Sundays. For Easter, Steve's mother would prepare a basket to take to church and Steve remembers fasting for 3 nights and 3 days. Steve's mother also made pysanky, dying them multiple colours and decorating them with various ornaments. He did not celebrate New Years or parish feast days. \nSteve's aunt used to sing when his family would visit her. His father would tell some stories about his journey to Canada. Steve's father had $75 that his father had given him and once he got to Winnipeg he intended to work and pay him back. He had 10 brothers and 3 sisters. Steve never knew his aunts or uncles. Steve's grandfather was a farmer and three of his uncles were killed in the army. His parents would not attend dances unless it was for a wedding. For weddings, there were musicians who played fiddles, accordion, drums and piano. There were no plays put on in the community that Steve remembers.
