Labbé: Je prenais trois œufs, trois oeufs là. Puis je les battais avec une tasse de sucre et trois quarts de beurre, une tasse de lait, deux cuillerées de poudre à pâte dans ma farine. Puis là je les brassa comme il faut là, tout bien démêlé là.  Mettre à la main. C’était pas plus dur que ça…\r\nRaymond Ménard: Bien, pour les gâteaux bruns, qu’est-ce que vous les faisiez ? \r\nMme. Labbé: Je mettais un petit peu de mélasse….avec des épices, un petit peu de cannelle et du clou, pour le mettre brun. Labbé: Je leur donnais de l’herbe à dinde. On l'ebouillantait puis on leur faisait boire cette eau-là par petite cuillerée.\r\n\rRaymond Ménard : Oui, puis si vous vouliez réchauffer les enfants, qu’est-ce vous leur donniez ?\r\nMme. Labbé: Ah, bien souvent j’ai été obligée de leur mettre des mouches au moutarde. On les beurre avec de quoi de doux… la graisse de saindoux, puis après ça, on leur met une mouche de moutarde et on les tient à la chaleur. J’en ai soigné un longtemps, mais, il fait qu’il avait des…il pognait un gros rhume là et qu'il pouvait plus souffler, pis c’est de même que je le soignais. Les docteurs étaient loin dans ce temps-là. Jai dit on prenait une cuillerée de moutarde là avec des fleurs, on le détrempait avec un petit peu d’eau et puis on mettait ça entre deux petites lignes minces. Puis, là, on mettait ça sur l’estomac. Puis quand la peau venait rouge en dessous, on l’ôtait et on graissa la peau avec de la graisse de saindoux. Nous autres, on ramassa toujours notre graisse pour ça., et vous savez, dans ce temps-là, on tuait bien des bêtes puantes, puis y a rien de meilleur que ça. \r\nRaymond Ménard: Ça, vous gardiez ça ? \r\nMme. Labbé: Ah oui, on gardait la graisse exprès. On les déplumait, parce qu’on vendait les peaux. Puis moi, je mettais ça dans le fourneau pour faire fondre la graisse et je rammassa tout ça. c'est comme une huile. Puis on gardait ça, c'est prêt pour ça.
