He lived in Canora, Bateman, Coderre and Mossbank, Saskatchewan. His family immigrated to Canada via Hamburg in 1924 on a ship called 'Orka' and landed in Québec on May 8, 1924.\n(Wuschke's wife intervenes and states that Wuschke moved to Moss Bank in 1948).\nThe family moved to Bateman in 1927 after his uncle had sent them money for the train fare. In 1929, his father rented two farms in the Coderre area and finally bought one.\nWuschke's father was born in 1873 in Bakun, Lublin. His mother was born in 1898 in Braganov, Russia. His wife was born in Mazenod, Saskatchewan.\nDuring WW II, he worked in St. Cathrines, Ontario. He also worked in several saw mills and lumber camps in Northern Ontario.\nWuschke finished grade 9 at the \"Chokecherry School\" in Coderre, Saskatchewan. It was a one-room school with one teacher and 48 students. His father took him out of school at the age of 14 in order to work on the farm.\nWuschke worked as a farmer and lumber jack all his life. Later, when he worked in a foundry, he earned seven dollars a day. He worked two shifts in order to make more money. He remembers that there were terrific blizzards. They had a rope from the house to the barn in order to find the buildings during the snow storms.\nHis father was a blacksmith and made anythings, he even made his own nails and screws. Wuschke did most of the farming.\nWuschke's mother did the house chores and loved gardening.\nHe recalls that there was no wallpaper in his parental home. When it was really cold, his mother insulated the house by putting newspapers into the cracks of the walls. There were some family pictures on the wall, and his mother always had curtains which she made of flour sacks. His mother used them also to sew pillow cases. His mother even made up her own songs. They also played guitars and accordions. Every Sunday, people would gather at their house and sing together. They sang both in English and German. His mother would learn English whereas his father spoke very broken English.\nWuschke talks about his father who was a great story teller, he would talk all night about his experiences in WW I. Together with a neighbour, he would tell ghost stories that scared the children.\nMost of their neighbours were French, so he learned French too. \nWuschke would sneak out from the second floor with a ladder and go to dances as his mother wouldn't allow him to go. He never danced, he just listened to the music. The dances were held in Coderrre which was then a booming town. He thinks that they had more fun then that they do now. He used to sing a lot of Western songs. Later, they wrote in German used the English alphabet. His daughter spoke only German in her early childhood. All their children can understand German but do not speak it anymore.\nWuschke talks about his neighbours and his closest friends.\nWuschke shows photographs of his horse whose name was Salton.\nHis parents' friends were mostly their German neighbours. He recalls that he, unlike his brother, never beat his horses.\nWuschke's favourite game was pool.\nHis mother thought it was a sin to sing cowboy songs and would say \"der schlechte Jung'\" (that bad boy). He recalls being physically punished by his mother. Then he received another letter that he was considered an \"enemy alien\" and had to report every week that he was here. The Canadian authorities took his guns and his citizenship papers away. Nevertheless, he kept receiving call letters from the war department that he had to join the army. He just sent them back. Finally, Wuschke wrote a letter to prime minister Mackenzie King and complained about his treatment. He received a response by the prime minister's office, signed by the prime minister, in which they apologized. Several day later, he got his guns and his citizenship papers back.\nThe rest of the war, he was called to work in a foundry in Ontario. He made up a song there about this foundry. He wasn't allowed to enter, so a week later, he would again say that he was born in Saskatchewan.
