In general, the history of ‘80s and ‘90s game development in Japan is not well documented, and this is also the case for the history of in-game AI. But many game AI developers including me need the history of game AI because they make a new game AI based on the past knowledge and cases of game AI. Over the past more than ten years, I recorded oral histories from game creators who created AI for games in the‘80s and ‘90s, in order to reconstruct the history of in-game AI development in Japan. In the lecture, I will show both the recent game AI technical design and past game AI technologies.
