It is a spring dedicated to a 6th century Celtic saint from Wales who was reportedly the first bishop of Vannes, Brittany, but who was murdered in 570 by his two sons because they detested his Christian views.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe granite shrine stands about 100 yards southwest of the parish church of Mériadec. The structure is thought to date from the 16th century. The fountain is decorated with finials and is adorned with crockets (a small carved ornament, typically a bud or curled leaf). Above the coat of arms of the Rohan seigneury, the arch has three sculpted heads. The basin, which extends beyond the structure, is bordered by two low walls. The entire site is enclosed, with each side closed by a stone stile to prevent animals from fouling the spring.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe water at the well has long been a curative for illnesses in cattle. The water of this fountain is also reputed to cure fevers as well as deafness, ear infections, and headaches.
