She grew up in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan. Her mother had always lived in Canada. She was born in Franklin Centre, Quebec, and came to Saskatchewan in 1913. Her father was born in St. Vincent, Minnesota and came in 1915 or 1916 together with his brothers. Her husband was born in Bateman, Saskatchewan.\nShe went to a country school for 10 years and had to take correspondence courses for high school. After finishing school, she had a job in Ottawa for about 8 months but came home again and went to a teacher's college in 1945. She started teaching after 6 months due to a shortage of teachers. They learned to accept everybody, they weren't biased.\nIn high school, there was no equipment to make chemical experiments. They had to memorize everything. She had classes in French but the teacher couldn't speak the language, she only wrote some sentences at the blackboard.\nShe recalls different games played at school. They also had a field day, they got ribbons, no material prices.\nShe had two brothers and a sister, they used to walk together to school.\nThere was a program called 'Honourable Archie' on radio. They also would pick berries.\nIn the winter, they had sleighs and sleighed down the hills.\nShe recalls games and plays, especially at Christmas. (The interviewer interrupts her: They would talk later about that.)\nShe describes a work day of her father. Most was linked to the farm. Her parents had a washing machine with a gasoline motor. His father had many problems starting the machine. He had to fill and re-fill the boiler and heat it up again.\nHer father enjoyed reading.\nFrank's mother would plan the meals and clean the house. She did a lot of baking, as there were always coming people in the afternoon for coffee. She taught her how to knit. And her mother did all the garden, her father would only plant potatoes. In the canning time, she was really busy.\nShe also sewed clothes. They had a sewing machine, and her younger brother was very good in it. He became an upholsterer.\nFrank's parental home had four rooms. They had a cream separator and a washing machine at the entry porch. They largest room was the living room, they had a leather-covered rocking chair with arms on it used by her father. They children would sit on his legs and arms, and he would tell them stories.\nIn the kitchen, there was a pump in the sink. They had to bring to water from the well. They had two bedrooms. Later, they added another bedroom.\nShe and her sister slept together, and when her brother was little, he slept at the bottom of their bed. Her older brother and a hired man would sleep in the granary in the 1930s as they couldn't sell any grain.\nThe house was painted white, only in later years, the roof was painted red. They couldn't afford the paint in the 1930s. It was a low cottage with an attic.\nThere were curtains. The paint powder was called calcimine. The bedrooms were painted red. The kitchen was oil-painted. The had linoleum at the floors, and rugs. They had a heater in one bedroom. They were protestants but there wasn't any protestant church. There was a Greek Orthodox Church where the Romanians went to. The Anglican Church had a van they sent to rural areas. Her grandmother gave a bible to every grandchild so that they would learn the Ten Commandments. She remembers that there were coloured pictures in the bible. Her father wasn't too enthusiastic about religion but there would attend church from time to time. They learned table graces. He also told stories about his childhood. His mother died when he was about 7, and his aunt took him to live with her, and they moved to North Dakota. Frank's father grew up with his cousins. He would also tell stories about WW I. He was wounded in the war and sent to Scotland to recover.
