The Father of her husband killed members of the family (?). He used to spend summer months with his aunt; later, he was sent to Canada as he did not have a family in the old country, got a job in the coalmine in Camrose. When he came to his aunt to help on the farm during the summer months, he met his future wife in the community. In 1939 they got engaged. She was 20 years old; he was 31—memories of engagement. The wedding was big, 100-150 people. Different kinds of food were present: chicken, meatballs, beef, pork, students´, holubtsi, barabolia, different pies were also baked. The wedding cake was self-prepared. She asked her friend to be her bridesmaid. Blessings were given three times. When they left, the church people were throwing corn into them in order to wish prosperity for their future life. Many Ukrainian songs were sung. They collected items for \"Koffer\" (?) such as pillows. She needed to take off the veil and put on the khustka on her head as a ritual of becoming a married woman. The interviewee is showing her wedding pictures (which were done nearly 65 years ago at the moment of the interview). A week after the actual wedding, they did another celebration and invited musicians. Such instruments were played: tsymbaly, buben, skrypka, harmoniia/accordion ). For the wedding, they invited only Ukrainians; it was a Ukrainian district. The father of the bride was not strict regarding the choice of church.
