They also bought machinery and ploughing equipment in order to start a homestead. His family came from Illinois. The years 1915, 1916, 1917 were good years for farming. In the first years, however, they struggled and had hardly enough seed. His father's family came from the United Stated in 1915, and 1917, Tichler's father build a brick house. The house became the entertainment centre of the district. People would play music there. A highlight was the Thanksgiving supper. Grain elevators wouldn't take the wheat.
