Flowers in the Ashes is a limited podcast series exploring how the 2024 Jasper Wildfire impacts the mental health of older survivors and what roles leisure plays in their recovery journeys. Flowers in the Ashes is part of an international collaboration that involves researchers from Japan, Taiwan, South Africa, and Canada, focused on people’s experiences with natural disasters, disasters’ impacts on survivors’ lives, and life moving forward. The international research team consisted of Dr. Shinichi Nagata, University of Tsukuba (Japan), Dr. Hsueh-Wen Chow, National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan), Dr. Pragashnie Govender, University of Kwazulu-Natal (South Africa), and Dr. Shintaro Kono, University of Alberta (Canada). The research project was funded by the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN). This podcast work was funded by the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta.
