Roots of Change is a multi-faceted project geared towards transforming the relationship between Indigenous communities and UAlberta. reducing barriers for First Peoples within and outside the academy. Roots of Change seeks to ensure that Indigenous voices involved in making or stewarding knowledge are not only acknowledged, but that they are heard. The Roots of Change podcast is part of a larger goal we seek to realize. The show highlights the work of some of the best and brightest Indigenous researchers and scholars from across the country. We discuss everything from decolonization and Indigenization in higher learning, to community engagement, and ownership and control of Indigenous knowledge. The show expands upon UAlberta’s existing “Presenting our Presence” vodcast series and SKIPP’s Community Voices program, which is a virtual space for community members and scholars to discuss Indigenous-engaged research, and to further the shift towards knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of research that is rooted in serving Indigenous communities.
